If you're considering getting lash extensions, there are a few important things to keep in mind before booking your appointment. Here are the most common questions I get from current and potential clients, and the answers you need to know!

What’s the difference between regular falsies and lash extensions?

Lash extensions are not the same as false eye lashes. False eye lashes are temporary and typically come in strips or clusters that you apply yourself or have applied by a professional. Lash extensions, on the other hand, are individual lashes that are glued to your natural lashes one by one, giving a more natural and long-lasting look. There are many variations to lash extensions, such as how many lashes are put on each natural lash, the diameter of the lash, curl, and more.

What are the benefits of eyelash extensions?

I am fully-onboard with lash extensions, both for myself and for my clients, because there are so many benefits to having professional lashes:

  1. You can go makeup-free. If you want to shorten your morning routine and look put together without a full face of makeup everyday, then lash extensions will be your best friend!

  2. You’ll see a fuller or longer lash appearance.

  3. If you struggle to apply strip lashes, hate the way they feel, and get annoyed when they fall out, lash extensions stick around!

  4. They are great for extended events. Wear your lashes for an entire vacation and then some. Brides love that they are set from rehearsal dinner through the honeymoon!

  5. You can customize your look: Lash artists can apply different lengths, curls, and thicknesses to meet your needs! Check out this curl scale by EBL lashes to get a better idea of the variety

What is the process like?

Your lash technician will clean and prime your natural lashes. We then use tweezers to gently attach individual lash extensions to each of your natural, healthy lashes. The process will take about 1-3 hours and the client keeps their eyes closed during this time. A lot of my clients choose to relax, chat, or listen to podcasts during this time.

The finished product: fuller and longer lashes should last for several weeks depending on how well you care for your lashes— read below for the best aftercare!

Who is a great candidate for lash extensions?

Generally, anyone who has healthy natural lashes is a good candidate for lash extensions. If your lashes aren’t as long or as full as you would like, or if you would like to simplify your beauty routine or do something special for a big event you may be a great candidate for extensions.

If you aren’t sure if extensions are right for you, book a consultation and a professional lash specialist can help you determine what will work best for you!

How should I choose a lash artist?

Lash extensions should only be applied by a trained professional. It's important to choose an experienced and licensed lash artist to ensure proper application and minimize the risk of damage to your natural lashes. This definitely isn’t a one size fits all process, and I absolutely love creating lashes that fit my clients’ needs best.

  • When picking a lash artist, look for a great portfolio! You need to see top views and close up pictures from previous clients. The top view makes it easier to clearly see if the work is clean and well done. The finished look should show that lashes aren’t all stuck together with big clumps of glue etc.

  • Portfolio photos will also show if they do the style of lashes you are interested in. Not all lash artists are the same and we each have our own style and clientele. Most artists are happy to consult with you before your appointment

  • Consider the price. It’s hard not to look for a “deal” but even though cheaper sounds better, it could mean you aren’t getting the best value for your money. Consider what goes into your appointment: quality lash products, cleanliness and sterilization, and time spent with attention to every detail. These are your eyes after all. A good lash artist will make absolutely sure to prevent infection or loss of natural lashes.

  • Ask about their product choices, experience, and education. I use quality, tested lash products from EBL, Lashbox LA, and Maven. I’m also state-certified, and have taken multiple advanced courses from both EBL and Maven. I have experience with all types of lashes and eye shapes. And I pride myself on creating a safe, sterile, and relaxing environment for each of my clients.

How do I take care of my lash extensions?

Lash extensions require maintenance. While lash extensions can last up to four weeks, with fill ins every two to three weeks, they do require some upkeep to maintain their appearance. This includes avoiding oil-based makeup and products, brushing your lashes daily, and avoiding rubbing your eyes. Some clients worry that washing their lashes may make them fall out, but actually the cleaner the lash, the better the retention and application process.

Don’t scrub! Washing your eyelash extensions gently with a safe shampoo cleanser is recommended for maintaining healthy and beautiful lash extensions, but the key word is gentle! This soft makeup brush will help you get in between the lashes without being too aggressive. Pat your lashes dry, comb through and finish with a lash serum.
