As a makeup artist, I know first hand that there are so many benefits of bringing your dream team of stylists with you! You avoid the dangers of picking an artist sight unseen at your destination. Not to mention the possible language barriers, unexpected cancellations, surprise pricing, and not getting the look you’re going for!
I suggest checking out any potential stylist’s portfolio and to get an idea of their style, follow them on social media to see recent work, and look for online reviews. Next, ask them upfront about pricing to make sure it fits your budget. But remember, this is how you will look on your wedding day, so it’s important to find someone who can make that look flawless and last all day and night! You also need to discuss travel details such as cost and accommodations, and ask if they offer any other services. For example, can they glam up your bridal party, too?
2. Prepare with a Makeup Trial
When you bring your stylist with you, you benefit from an in-person makeup trial before you travel! If you choose someone who is local to you, make sure you take advantage of this trial session before you leave. This serves multiple purposes: Your artist will get an idea of how they’ll work with your features, and can customize a package that fits your needs. Trials help to bring your vision to life on your specific face. We sometimes see things on models and don't like it on ourselves. This also helps to make sure you're 100% confident with your look for the day.
Make sure you discuss the weather/itinerary and other factors that may impact your look. Will you be in the sun for two days before the wedding? We need to know!
Tip 3: Be Clear with Expectations
When you’re traveling with a makeup artist, reliability is key. Imagine booking someone in another town or country only to have them no-show on the day of! It’s often easier to find a makeup artist or stylist from your area and get honest reviews and feedback than finding someone at your destination.
Make sure you ask some key questions though before you go! How will your makeup artist be expected to travel from point a to point b? Do they have your day-of itinerary? Are there any other details they need to know about your location? Your stylist should make you feel confident that they know what they are doing and will show up on time in the right place!
