How to Have a Stress-Free Wedding Morning: Tips from Your Stylist

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

As a stylist I have worked with more than 200 brides, and trust me when I say I have seen a lot of great ideas for keeping your wedding day running smoothly. Preparing for a wedding can be an incredibly stressful process, but on the wedding morning itself there are a few ways to make sure that your stress levels stay low. Read on for some amazing tips I’ve learned from brides who made their wedding day (virtually) stress-free so they could enjoy every minute!

Tip 1: Invest in some pre-wedding pampering

Take your look to the next level and indulge in some serious self-care that will have you looking and feeling like a goddess on your big day. Consider booking yourself in for a Hydra facial and waxing a week before your wedding for a perfect glow. I also recommend getting a blowout the day before. This will guarantee you have great, clean hair for your ceremony look AND it will look perfect for your rehearsal dinner.

Tip 2: Make a plan, and share it!

A big stressor for a lot of brides is trying to coordinate all of their favorite people getting ready at the same time. You should NOT be coordinating ANYTHING on your wedding morning. I repeat, this should be a hands off, relaxing experience for you, so here are a few tips to make that happen:

  • Ensure that everyone involved in the wedding has an up to date timeline that includes all locations. Be clear that these times aren’t suggestions. This article has a lot of great advice for making a timeline that makes sense for your day.

  • Don’t save steaming your dresses until the last minute! This will frizz up your hair and melt your makeup. You can delegate this task to someone the night before OR for the morning of before everyone has done hair and makeup.

  • Your bridal party also needs to have an idea of hair and makeup BEFORE they get into the chair. They probably won’t have a trial beforehand, and you want them to be happy with their look without taking a lot of extra time deciding and stressing about inspiration. You can find great inspiration pictures on your stylist's website or through Instagram and Pinterest.

Tip 3: Delegate!

Delegating tasks is key for a stress-free wedding morning. Consider having someone else steam the dresses, pick up coffee, and bring champagne. This will help to ensure that everyone is taken care of and that you can focus on getting ready. For A LOT of brides, letting go of the small tasks can be really difficult. Picking up champagne may seem like a quick job, but when you add 99 more “little tasks” they add up. Make a list and hand it over!

If you want to be a truly hands-off bride, consider hiring a coordinator! I love working with Adriel at Sutlan&Co.

Tip 4: Choose your Vibe

Finally, it is important to set the vibe on the morning of your wedding. Are you wanting a relaxed and calm morning or more of a party with your best girlfriends? Have a playlist ready with your favorite songs, and songs that hold special memories with you and your attendants. (Psst… this can be delegated too!)

Next, consider your “getting ready” photos. Think about whether you want everyone in their jammies, which could be a cute gift. Or maybe you want everyone to be a little more dressed up… this is up to you and your photographer! Share your vision with your party so they can contribute to the vibe.

Tip 5: Anticipate emergencies

It is also important to be ready for any unexpected emergencies. Consider creating an emergency kit with items such as band-aids, bobby pins, and extra makeup. Again, you can delegate this job to someone else so that you do not have to worry about it on the morning of your wedding.

It's great to anticipate emergencies, but also remember that minor things won’t matter in the long run! Your guests will likely NOT remember if there is a little stain on your bridesmaid's dress.

Tip 6: Know what to expect with your hair and makeup

Finally, don’t forget to book your hair and makeup trial. This will help ensure that you know exactly what to expect on the day and that there are no surprises. Your artist will get an idea of how they’ll work with your features and can customize a package that fits your needs. You’ll alleviate a lot of wedding morning stress when you are 100% confident with your look for the day.

Make sure you discuss itinerary and other factors that may impact your look (including weather..ah!). Will you be in the sun for two days before the wedding? We need to know!

Bonus! Keep an Assistant on Site

Want to have the full luxury experience on your wedding day? I offer on site touch up hours! I always describe it like having a personal assistant because I’m pretty much in the background following you everywhere while making sure your hair and makeup continues to look FLAWLESS✨

I will also do things like bustle the gown, and I even do any minor things my brides may need help with (which can help both the bride and coordinator).
